Cholatse Expedition

25 Days 24 Nights

Cholatse Peak is connected to Taboche Peak by a long ridge. The ascent involves climbing snow slopes leading to a challenging rock section. After overcoming this crux, climbers reach a steep and spectacular ridgeline that eventually levels out at the summit dome.

Just below the eastern pass lies a lake. In Tibetan, “Cho” means lake, “La” means pass, and “Tse” means peak—so Cholatse translates to “lake pass peak.” The peak’s main attraction is the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Before attempting the difficult alpine-style climb of Cholatse, we will acclimatize by crossing the Cho La Pass at 5,420 meters. Compared to other peaks in Nepal, Cholatse is considered one of the most challenging to climb. It remains largely untouched by commercial expeditions, and the routes to its summit have been ascended only a handful of times.
