Saribung Peak Climbing (6,328 m) is a rising favorite among climbers and trekkers in mid-western Nepal. Located northeast of Lo-Manthang near the Nepal–Tibet border (28°53’04’’N / 84°10’26”E), Saribung offers an extraordinary opportunity to explore the remote Tibetan plateau and the mystical landscapes beyond the Lo-Mangthang mountains. Officially opened in 2006, the Saribung Peak and Upper Mustang route remains a restricted area, accessible only with special permits and for a limited time, preserving its untouched beauty and cultural heritage.
Situated in the isolated Damodar Himal region of Mustang, this expedition challenges adventurers with rugged trails, high mountain passes, and glacier crossings. It leads you through some of Nepal’s most dramatic alpine terrain, including the stunning Damodar Kunda region and the remote Nar-Phu Valley. From the summit of Saribung, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of Himalayan giants such as Himlung Himal (7,126 m), Nilgiri Himal (7,061 m), Lamjung Himal (6,983 m), Mt. Manaslu (8,156 m), and Annapurna II (7,937 m).
The journey begins in Jomsom, the gateway to Mustang, and passes through culturally rich villages like Kagbeni, Chele, Geling, Tsarang, and Lo-Manthang, before heading toward Dhi Gaon, Luri Gumba, Ghuma Tanti, Namta Khola, and finally Saribung Base Camp for acclimatization prior to the summit attempt.
This expedition requires a good level of physical fitness, endurance, and a sense of adventure. The route is remote and less-traveled, perfect for those looking for a challenging and authentic Himalayan experience.
